I never understood why VRBO only lets you begin a search by town - especially since many renters probably don't know the area well enough to know if they want to stay in one town versus another.
I have been frustrated about that very thing. I believe my vaction rental is missed a lot because, even though it is the one and only in that town, renters from another part of the country don't know to look there. Being able to search by "ski resorts" or "bike trails," both of which are only a couple miles away, would take them right to my listing.
